Hi alf, i thought it wasnt to bad a price, it would be 3/4 weeks before i could get it in with them as they are so busy, so mate had a word with a chap at a diffrent gaurge that they share work with each other, and he is coming in the morning to have a look and see if they could do it any sooner, as i need the cab off the drive as wife is moaning about it, and dont want to have to take it to hull to then bring it all the way back again in the back of the truck a few days later.

Hi all, update on my new cab, i am dropping the cab off in the morning, then picking up the trade plates up on friday, then dropping trailer back off in hull while i pick my truck upto bring it back down to sheffield, so fingers crossed by the end of April, i will have my truk back and a step closer to being back on the road.
ALf the price to swap caps and sort the damage out and refit the wind deflector and sort night heater out is £420, funny how i said to mate it was abit much he had a word with his boss and the price came down lol

Hi Alf, its 8 hrs to swap cabs, then what ever time it takes to jig the cab when its fitted to the chassie, also swap the wheel archs over as the ones on the cab are wider than the ones on the truck and i want to keep it as orginal as possible with the exception of a few upgrades.
1. is to fit curtain rail right around the cab (why oh why did ford only go around the bed area)
2. some new speakers in rear of the cab replacing the old ones.
3. new interior lights as never thought the ford ones where upto much.
4. get the wind deflectors for the front windows i found just one place in ireland that can supply them i think they are about £55 ish.

Hi all, well thats the cab dropped off at my mates garage, he will be starting it next week to sort the cab out after the bank holiday weekend, then some time next week i will bring the truck down, i have told them not to rush it and to only do it when they have time between jobs, that way i keep the price down as well.

He keeps them in a compound just round the corner from his workshop, but they never seem to offer a potential customer cheaper, second hand bits should they want them?? When I restored mine I went to see him for a few bits and bobs I needed and noticed the compound full of Cargo's and drove in there expecting it to be Phillips's premises. It turned out it was a different premises and Phillips's just rented half the yard space to keep their trucks in. I noted a 1313 in relatively poor condition, but with an easily restorable set of wide mudguards on it. When I finally got to Phillips's official premises round the corner, I asked if they had a set of wide cab arches (new or 2nd hand) and he said no! I didn't delve further and just went to Cargo Spares and paid the £300 for a NOS set they had. That's just how it is I guess, but Phillips's do have 2nd hand bits, they just (seemingly) don't want to sell them for some reason?? Have you tried Cargo Spares, Westbury?? Alternatively there are a few Cargo's breaking on Ebay.

If they are good ones what will you offer me for the pair? I can post them at cost if required, I will try and dig them out tomorrow to see how good they really are . Alfie

I have used them a couple of times and they are ok but very expensive, sad sign of the times, trouble is if we cant get spares at sensible prices then we will all end up scrapping our trucks for the sake of reasonably priced spares. Alfie Yep, guess that's the way it is Alf - and if I'm honest, from my conversation with him, he doesn't really care much for those restoring trucks as we are in a relative minority (that's the impression I got anyway!). He's more interested in the horsebox potential, as (rightly so I guess), that is where the money is these days. Even so, most people (especially those who have little interest in the actual vehicle and just want to keep it roadworthy) would settle for a good second hand part, before paying NOS prices. Ebay etc, etc will always throw up good competition in that area, so why oh why, Phillips's insist on flogging NOS stuff all the time is really beyond me. At this point, I'd like to make it clear to all, that I am in no way shape, or form berating Phillip's, just putting forward an opinion based on experience. It's nice to have them there when you need them, but they are fooking expensive! Then again, he doesn't have many heavyweight bits - he again neither does anybody else for that matter. . . .

Hi Again, Yes I agree entirely with what you say, the silly thing is that by the time he does decide to sell his secondhand stuff most of it will be knackered!........ and if it isnt no one will need it as all the rough Cargo's will have been broken for spares on ebay at sensible prices ;D
