Hi all (and you alf) right i have been buyin again, i got my hands on a sleeper cab to replace one of mine that is to far gone, the cab was done up in 2007 (this bit from the chap i bought it from) the company that owned it had it all done up from cab to body (think it wa a flat back) it went for an mot passed drove back to there yard and they went bust a few days later so never got used. I dont know how the chap i bought it from came to have it other than he cut it up the cab was to good to scrap, i told him i would buy it from him all was fine until he rang me and told me he had moved it and used a chain (he didnt think it was so heavy) to lift it and crushed the cab (top of door frame), so after looking at the pictures he sent and a change in price i went to pick it up. I have spent all day going over it (wife not happy about it been on the drive) i had a look under the cab when it was lifted upto load and talk about been mint, so after taking the seats out taking of the broken mirror the lower step, i went under the bed and found a night heater and went in the glove box and found page after page of history and service books, i did also find in the glove box there was a speed limiter control box. (for sale if anybody needs one) Right to main part of this, how can i pull the gutter back out and try to get the roof back to fit round the top of the door i have pulled so much of the gutter out but there must be away of getting it back to how it is ment to be. Oh Alf do you have to door handles as they are both broken James

Hi James, Thank god someone read my post ha ha, What a lucky bugger to find a near mint cab, not to mention the glovebox finds eh,I am sure someone on here (possibly daver 1 )was asking for a night-heater some time ago :)what a shame about the plonker bending the guttering eh As for straightening the gutters etc, have you any pics to have a look at as ive done quite a bit of bodywork repairing in my time so may be able to help . I do have a pair of external door handles I think they should be still fitted to the pair of doors I have, I will have a look to make sure as they are covered up in the back of my garage at the moment but I will dig them out asap. Regards Alf

Hi james, Hmm that looks pretty well crushed and on a very strong part of the cab, I would think the best way to tackle that would be to use a blowtorch and get it virtually red hot then use dollies on it, if you cant manage that, then a simpler way would be to cut that section out and cut the same section out of your old cab then weld it in, this sounds harder than it is, if you are good at measuring then it wont be a hard job to do.
As for getting power into the cab, do you mean to test the gauges etc?, if so you could take a negative to the cab body, then put a positive onto the fuse you want to power each piece of equipment the fuse box is under the glove box..
As for the complete locks I dont have any keys for these doors thats if the complete locks are still on the doors, so you would have to use your old lock barrels etc. Regards Alfie

Hi Alf, i have new door lock set i picked up on ebay, how do they come out (the lock where the key fits), as i could use the ones from the cab or the new ones.
I will phone a friend of mine in the morning as he works for a bodybuilders and commercial truck repair place, and see what he has to say about it.
So how hard is it to take a cab off then fit another ? i have never done it before so any points will be very handy.
Thanks (alf)

Hi James, The locks come out pretty easily just remove the 3 Torx screws holding the lock onto the door and when you pull the lock back you will see the rods that connect the inside door handle too it these just clip off and the key barrel is fixed to it, its an easy job, before refitting it to the new door spray loads of WD40 into the mechanism otherwise you will find the locks get very stiff. Removing the cab is,nt that bad either you have a multiplug for the electrics, then remove the steering joints on the column, then the brake/clutch pipes/ tacho sensor wires/air pipes etc then put a good plank through cab (exactly where the plonker put the chains , Then just take the weight of the cab you then remove the check levers on the drivers side, then tie down or remove the 2 torsion bars that assist the cab lift, then pull out the eye bolts from the front rubber bushes, while someone helps by lifting the cab slightly to help the bolts pull out. Then just lift it clear, to refit just reverse the procedure. I may have forgot one or two small wires or pipes so check before lifting it clear. Regards Alf

Alf I agree traffic is slow on here - a lot of posts/pics seem to go straight to UK Trucknet or Flickr. I'm still searching high and low for an under bumper spoiler and am thinking about importing one back from NZ etc. What countries are the old Cargo's still made I wonder?? Brazil and Turkey now make the refined version of the old cab, but what about India. . . . . .hmmmm, I wonder!!

Hi all (again) been on to mate who is coming in the morning to have a look at the damage on cab, i sent him a picture and he seams to think it will pull out so finger crossed there is light at the end of the tunnel not just some arse with a torch lol.
Well after 3 days i am all most sorted with this cab, i have striped the all the door panels off both doors, taken both door handles out as they where broken, removed both seats and the rubber floor mate out, oh and then removed about 3 to 4 ins of dust, well i say me it was my 12 year old daughter charlotte who vac it out then washed it all down in side. Right items if anybody is intrested 2 single seats need a wash no rips, two 1413 door badges, and a speed limiter control box.

Hi Again Kid, I dont know where they are still making Cargo Cabs I would hazard a guess that India is though, they seem to collect all our old presses and Dies etc, I will have a scout around for an under bumper spoiler at my local truck scrappy, I will let you know if I find one. regards Alf

Hi alf, my wifes granparents live in dunfries, so if we get up that way i will let you know mate, if you are on facebook mate (i am not that upto speed with it my self) you could add me as i have pictures of this cab and my other cargos on there.
The drivers seat will need a clean but it is in good condition, i have only taken it out as i am going to get as much out of my other cab as possible with it been one of the limited editions.
I got the door locks out like you said, i have them sat in oil to free them off so i have sum spares, you dont have a mirror arm the one that fits two mirrors on like they fitted on the tractor units, i got one the other month to fit on my other cargo, i was thinking is it possable to cut a spare mirror arm, then weld it to make it long enough to fit a wide angle mirro with the main mirror.

If you do ever come up to Dumfriesshire by all means pop in for a chat. As for the Mirror arms I only have the standard single type, I dont think you would be able to cobble 2 together to make a double as I think they are made of Mazak which weld will not take too. Also steeping the locks in oil is a very good idea as they get water into them and rust up if you dont . Take Care Alf

Hi alf, i dont care for facebook my self, i only have it so my daughter can play the games on it, right my mate cam today and looked over the cab he said to strip the roof lining out so took that out he said we might have to cut the box section out across the top of the door then jig it back in to shape, then reweld the box section back in.
It looks like i might have to mount the cab to jig it to keep the price down and to save time making a jig to fit, just hope we dont pull the cab off the truck lol.
While i have the lining down i will fit a new radio ariel and two new roof lights, might try and get sum soundproof in to the roof lining as i dont think the sponge is upto much.
Oh what do you think to £600 all in, pulling the roof swapping the cabs but i will have to do the refit of the interior and the wiring.

Hi James, £600 does'nt sound bad for all that work as it does sound like he knows what he is doing, judging by the pics its what I would have done, it does sound a lot of money but he will have his work cut out and thinking about it, you would only be paying the cost of 5 or 6 tanks of diesel eh. Good idea about padding out the roof as it will make the cab quieter and warmer especially in winter, the wiring is pretty straightforward when you get to have a good look at it, dont forget to let us all know how you get on. Good luck Alf
