Hi all. Well I have some great news. We have had news about a Cargo that was left to rust, is now been saved. The Cargo in question is F646 WCW, a 0815 limited edition. Below is a picture Andy Ward took of her in an industrial estate in Ellistown. The person who has saved this truck (and another limited edition 0815) is James (Cargo1). He takes up the story: "I dont know if you want to put this on your site but thats upto you, i am in the middle of doing up two ford cargo 815 limited editions i have number 7 and 38 out of 150. The first one i got you have a picture of it on your web site, reg number F646WCW, i got it from near Leicester, it was for sale on ebay, the person who won it didnt collect it and it need to be moved so i went to get it, its in need of some wrok but nothing over the top, it doesnt have original engine in it, its been replaced with a 110bhp lump its still has the right gear box and back axle, its starts and drives fine, i am planing on getting it back working when i have finished working on it as i have been offered some work for it. The second is a mint little truck, it has the right engine gearbox, i have only had this a few weeks, i collect it from Romford it was either i get it or it went for scrap and i didnt think that was right, myself and the wife went down for it and i drove it back on trade plates, it was very funny passing new 7.5 tonner trucks doing 56mph while i was having all on to keep it on the clock i was alway having to watch the speed, i can not find any information any were about the limited edition cargo except they were made to celebrate the 100.000 ford cargo made." And here is another picture of F646 WCW (on the right), with the other Cargo in James's ownership. The photo has been supplied by and is copyright to James (Cargo1) I hope James will keep us updated with news and pictures of how these two trucks are coming along. Thanks to him for this news article. Great news indeed Andy B

It would be nice to know how many of the original 150 remain; perhaps worth approaching DVLA!??

Good idea. As we will not be asking for addresses. Only problem I see is will the 150 be listed on the DVLA, or will it just be classed as a "Cargo"?

From my V5 there is no reference to being a special, i doubt there are many left, i had two (one rotted to the point it collapsed) a friend of my partner said he scrapped two himself so that's 1 out of 4 that i know of remain! Had a local parts supplier call to see ours as he said he saw one once in a mag!

A friend of mine told me the other day that he knew were there was 2 both recovery trucks, but when he rang the bloke he had cut them both up not sure they were both limited editions or just sleeper cab 813).
So Vlad when your limited edition fell apart, did you keep any of the parts from it ? its just i am looking for the right bumper for one of mine.
I do know of one limited edition thats still on the road, i was in talks with the bloke about buyin it but he wanted to much for it and it needes to much work for the money he wanted.

I can't remember the full registration of the one I used to drive back in 1991 - it was a flatbed, sleeper and was definately a G-reg. G72 something as I recall?? The company only kept it for about 4 months unfortunately. There was a horsebox for sale on one website recently and it was listed as an 0815 Cargo, but wasn't a sleeper as I recall. Were they all sleepers?? Edited to say: Here's the link to the horsebox, but I don't think it's an 0815?!? www.equine-world.co.uk/classified_read.asp?id=7122

As far as i know all 150 made were sleeper cabs, they did sell an 815 but they were very few in number, i have worked on one that was a turbo 815 day cab horsebox but it wasnt part of the limited edition`s i went to look at one before we got our horsebox but it wasnt high enough in the horse area, i think they brought them out to keep up with mercedes and just before the iveco cargo came out.
The out cargo was far better than the early iveco cargo, i drove a K reg one and what a bag of crap, the exhaust had a small bracket that held it in place and for all the time i work there which was almost a year they were on order from iveco, and went though at least three down pipe`s.

Slightly off topic, but I have never rated the Iveco Cargo at any level from it's introduction in early 1992 onwards. The Tector's are just as pants as the earlier versions, and the tractor units were no different imo. Not surprising really, as the only thing that was Ford about it was the badge on the front between the windscreen wipers!! It never came anywhere close to the old Cargo and Iveco knew it too!!
As the REAL Cargo's were never really big sellers above 17 tons (no doubt as a legacy left from the D-Series being underpowered at that level) it's not difficult to see why Ford handed everything over to Iveco and eventually pulled out of truck manufacturing altogether to concentrate on the Transit.

Hi Cargo1, all the bits from the rotted one that were re-usable have been repaired and used on the remaining one! ours as it stands has been converted into a bevertail and has a hi-ab type crane on it, i know i'm going to get slatted for saying this but we've added to her mid-restored state an Eminox stack!....she looks puuurty! lol Will try to get pics as she stands posted!
