Hello Im from Denmark and my husbond have a Ford Cargo 711 from 1986. After we had it lifted at the back end to get the breaks cleaned we have trouble changing the gear. We have NOT touched the gearbox. Have anyone any idea what it could be? Could it be something with the gearoil that had runned forward because we had it lifted? kind regards Lene

Welcome to the forum. I haven't heard of a problem as you describe, so I hope somebody will be alonh soon that can help. In the mean time, I will ask my mechanic tomorrow, he knows his Cargos!

The only other thing I can think of is that the pinch clamp on the gearstick rod has allowed the rod to slip out of position causing poor gear selection this happened on my 0813 ...but I cant see how lifting the rear has caused this. Hope this helps Alf

Thanks for the answers. My husbond says it was lifted approx 8 inches, a little more than nessesary to take the rear off, but it was for a couple of hours. It had graunch when he selected reverse. He drove a little around today and there wasn't any problem. Could the oil run back again? It was lifted so long because the brakes had to be cleaned. It just passed the danish vehicle inspection, but the difference in the brakes was at the limit (30%) so we are afraid it is the last year for the horsetransporter š It got new brake pads 2 years ago, handmade because they couldn't get any in Denmark but this was apparently not the only problems with the brakes.
Kind regards Lene

Kind regards Lene Hi Again Lene, The oil would drop down into the Bellhousing and eventually dribble out so all should be well and no damage has been done. glad all is well. I suggest you top up the gearbox though. Also the brakes on Cargos have always been their main problem area. Regards Alf
