Well she's gone and I will really miss her, was probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, so she's gone to a Landrover Specialist repairer in Sheffield ,so will end her days Lugging old 4x4s around the country.
Regards
Alfie

Sad news Alfie, but good news. At least she will have a fairly easy life.
Picking mine up on Sunday. Quite excited if I am honest and also a little nervous as I don't know much about trucks. The fact that it's a horsebox makes it worse as I know they don't get looked after the way they should! Any tips for me would be very much appreciated.

Hi Rob, Yes I will miss it thats for sure , its been the most reliable vehicle ive ever owned , anyway back to your question regarding tips on running Cargo's, the very 1st things I would do is as follows: (1) CHANGE BOTH FUEL FILTERS+ CLEAN OUT THE GLASS PUMP BOWL. (2) CHANGE THE OIL IN BOTH SUMPS.INC FILTER.. 20w 50w IS OK. (3) CHECK THE FANBELT ADJUSTMENT AND CONDITION. (4) CHECK ALL WATER HOSES AND CLIPS FOR PERISHING/RUSTY CLIPS. (5) KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TEMP GAUGE NEVER LET A CARGO OVERHEAT. (6) CHECK ALL FLUIDS BRAKE/GEARBOX OIL / DIFF OIL/ANTIFREEZE. (7) THE FUSEBOXES BELOW THE GLOVEBOX CAN GET DRY SOLDERED JOINTS ON THE BACK OF THEM CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS + BURNING SMELLS. (8) DONT LEAVE IT FOR MONTHS THEN SUDDENLY DO LONG RUNS, ITS A GOOD IDEA TO RUN IT EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS AND USE THE BRAKES A LOT TO KEEP THEM FREE OF STICKING. (9) KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE POWER STEERING OIL LEVEL AND MAKE SURE THE TWO PIPES LEADING TO THE STEERING BOX ARE NOT TOO CORRODED (MINE BURST AND EMPTIED ALL ITS FLUID ONTO THE ENGINE, BUT YOU CAN STILL STEER IT WITHOUT THE PUMP WORKING BUT ITS REALLY HARD WORK. (10) KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TYRES FOR PERISHING ESPECIALLY THE FRONT AS A BLOWOUT ON THE FRONT OF A CARGO IS NOT AN EXPERIENCE YOU WOULD WANT TO ENCOUNTER. All the above may sound daunting but it isnt as if you do it all over a period of time a Cargo will not let you down they are amongst the most reliable old trucks going and will take severe punishment, regular check are the key to keeping them reliable as the last thing you want is a breakdown as recovery of trucks doesn't come cheap. Although I no longer own a Cargo I will still log in here every now and then and if I can help any members I certainly will. Kind Regards and all the very best . Alf Beard

Thanks for that Alf, just written it all down to take with me tomorrow. Also saw the picture of that pesky valve which I will be checking before handing any cash over!
On a side note, I obviously don't know you too well but can tell your clearly well versed in the ways of the Cargo and passionate about them too. Even though this forum is quiet I reckon there's plenty of 'ghosts' visiting but not posting so please don't abandon us even though you had to part with yours. That, in my opinion would be a shame.
Regards, Rob.

Hi Bob, Thanks for the kind words, and yes I am pretty passionate about Cargo's, by the time you read this you will probably have your Cargo at home and be delighted at the way they drive, hope all went well and no problems arose on the journey. I will still be coming on here from time to time and if I can help I certainly will. just ask give me time to notice and reply to the post. Thank You Alf

Well, we just got back from the mammoth drive from Wakefield to Herne Bay and back.
Our new purchase is as in my profile picture. 1987 Cargo 1035 (still don't know what that bit means) horsebox. £95 almost filled her up and was left with just over quarter tank (20-25mpg) not too shabby for an old girl!
First job(s) on the list, all that stuff you listed Alf. Reckon I will work my way through that lot, maybe it will have a bot more grunt after that. Then have a look at the niggly stuff like the sloppy steering, a broken window winder, locked glove box with no key, dodgy radio and sorting the drivers seat adjusters out as it seems to be stuck in one spot.
Right, time to trawl the internet for parts suppliers!
Night all!
