I am a very new Ford Cargo Owner (1982 - 0913 ) and have begun the Restoration process. At 33 years young I suspect it will be difficult find parts.
There is so much to do, however it is in good condition for its age.
The pressing issues are the door opening restrainer which is missing on the driver side door. (RHDrive)
There is some rust bubbles under the windscreen ( between windscreen wiper mounts) and it looks difficult to repair without taking out the windscreen.
An Option may be to cut out rusted and MIG metal replacements and or fix with Fibreglass hair epoxy after using some product to convert the rust.
Has anyone had experience repairing this panel?
Thanks in advance, Peter.

Welcome Peter, I replaced this panel on my Cargo, the easiest method is to buy a replacement panel (if you can find one) and fit it over the top of the old one and drill a series of holes along it and weld through the holes, the windscreen rubber will prise up enough to allow another panel on top of the old one. or you could use a swage ing machine and make up a repair section and fit that instead. the panels are available from Phillips Commercials but are very expensive.. I was lucky I got a brand new one off e bay for £40.

Today I visited a truck dismantler seeking parts. I hoped to get the drivers side door re-strainer but was unsuccessful. There were five Ford Cargo's in various states of disrepair. I believe I was very fortunate and purchased a front right indicator lamp, a glove box door, two side surround panels for the window opening on both sides and an aluminium step for the drivers and passenger sides for AU$220.
Several of the wiper panels had been removed and the others were in worst state than mine so I have decided to cut out the rusted parts and patch using metal panel sections and waterproof epoxy fibreglass after treating any remaining rust. Did you use any cavity wax or antirust prevention or just primer and paint?
Peter

Hi Peter,
Glad you found some good spares for it....also I didn't put any anti rust into the cavity as I was worried it would catch fire when I welded it up, but I would suggest it would be better to get some into the cavity if you are just repairing the panel.
Good luck with it.

View Attachment Mine is just full of filler on that panel - it was when I bought the truck and I haven't bothered replacing it! Status quo is, just bodge it until it gets so bad it requires replacing. I have no plans to do mine, even though it let's the truck down in wider terms. Too expensive and mostly - too bloody labour intensive to do imo....!
