Well, thought id start a restoration thread for my Cargo 811 horsebox.
I have upgraded it to a 5 speed box. This is sooo much better. No faster, but so smoother and can deal with hills much much better. Just got to get used to the reverse being where 1st was!!
While i was down there i also noticed the clutch slave cylinder was leaking, so this has been replaced as well.
Then i had the bright idea to change the cab as the original was getting very rusty all over and i had a waterfall around the windscreen when it rained.
This i have just done, new cab sourced (well old, but better than the current) and swapped over. Had to take a lot off of the old cab as the new one was better tin wise and had had a lot of the floor replaced so all solid underneath, but the dash/interior/door etc where in a bad way, but my old cab was great in this respect. Took a lot longer than expected though. 4 days of work (2 in wet weather, not fun). Just how many different types of bolts and screws could Ford find when they put a Cargo together???
The worst bit was it was all done outside in my parents front garden. This meant all tools had to be got out at the start of the day and put away at the end. What a palaver.
Well, it is all back together now and everything works, most plastics are good, but i still have to repair a few places on the new cab (see door edges and steps), but at least i have a fighting chance of making this one a good`n!
Oh and i now know how to rebuild the brake calipers!
The wiring still needs some tidying, as goodness knows what the previous owner thought they were doing with it! Cables everywhere leading nowhere. There are some links to photos below (i hope).
The whole lorry needs painting but i have some bodywork to do first, both the cab and the horsebox back.
I will also have some spares on ebay shortly. Not much, just the good bits left over.
I will update as i go
Newer cab arriving:
New on, old off:
Some reasons the old one had to come off:
New being fitted:
Please let me know if the links dont work.
I do seem to have forgotten to take any of the interior. Doh!
