Hi lads,
Took my old Cargo for it's test yesterday at VOSA Carlisle apparently they are the strictest testing station in the UK, I drove in and the tester checked the headlamp aim then done the emissions which was very low ;D, then he started looking for the chassis vin number unfortunately my truck had been fitted with a replacement cab in 1990 and the plate from the LHS pillar was not refitted, consequently the tester said I would have to take the truck away and find the chassis number which should be stamped into the chassis, it took me 3 1/2hrs scrapping my nice new paint off the chassis before I found it on the LHS chassis leg so I took off back to the testing station, the tester checked the chassis number and everything else again, then he jumped in the cab, after a few mins he called me into the cab and said he had found that the hazard warning switch although working ok the bulb inside it did'nt light up, he hummed and harred then suddenly the light started working so he said, I was just about to give you a failure, he then disappeared under the truck and was battering away with his hammer under the cab and around the chassis, after around 1/2hr he came out of the pit and said come and look at this, on the inside of the RHS inside rear tyre there was a 1/2" V shaped flap just on the edge of the tread, guess what it was a virtually new TOYO tyre . he said thats a failure unfortunately, B4stard!!, he then done the brake tests etc and eventually said sorry mate although this trucks one of the best Cargo's ive seen for years I will have to give you a failure certificate, but only for the tyre I will forget about the light in the hazard switch , talk about pissed off, ive booked it back in for a retest £38 on thursday morning and have fitted another tyre, so hopefully it should now pass I was telling my mate the whole story and he said his company never send vehicles for test to Carlisle because they are not funded by the government and therefore the testing station has to make its own money and they are known to fail vehicles for the slightest fault with no exceptions, I wish I knew before I wasted £38, well watch this space, have any of you lads had this sort of experience with VOSA testing stations. I certainly havn't I get my Vintage cars through the MOT every year at local garages, and have never in 35yrs had a failure as I fully check everything before taking them, I cant believe they failed it on this tyre as the cut is'nt deep enough to see cord or wire.
