Hello everybody,
Great to have found you.
I have a 1991 10.5 tonne cargo. (converted to a library) The power steering only works on one side, turn to the left and it's good but not on the right. We have taken the steering box off and dismantled it. Can't see anything wrong so we think that it might need seals replacing.
What do you think please.
Thanks all
Gabriel

Hello! Sounds like you are on top of it, luckily we haven't had any steering probs to contend with. We do have an 0813 scrapper that has to be broken up soon, dunno if the steering box is the same though.

maybe not on top of it, getting there perhaps. If it is anew seal kit, the problem is where to find one. Have been looking but no luck, any ideas on sourcing a kit?

We got a track rod end from a Cargo spares place last week. Try Terry on 01225764885. If he doesn't answer he will ring back.

Thanks for that. I think I might have already contacted him. He thinks he's got a box but I don't really want to spend that much if I can find a seal kit. May have to...........

Thanks for your answers. I got a steering box from Terry. But after fitting it and flushing it through the steering still doesn't work. Works fine to the left but not the right just as it did with the old box.. Can anybody suggest what could be wrong?
All the best

Very weird. I would have said it was the box if anything. Could it be the valve in the box? Odd that two boxes would behave the same. Is it hard to turn all the way to the left? Or does it become harder?

Yeh, I spoke to Terry and he offered to send me a pump to try. But if the steering is good one side the pump must be OK, it doesn't care where it's putting the pressure. The valve in the steering box? The first thing I thought was that to have the same problem on two boxes one after the other is very unlikely. Can you tell me how to identify if there is anything wrong with the valve? This is not as simple as it should be.
I am going to try bleeding again and I'll let you know if it gets harder the further it turns.
thanks fred

Where are you? My mate was filling me in on this, and said it's far easier to tell what's wrong if the truck's in front of him. He's in Surrey.

That's really good of you, but I'm miles away in Derbyshire. I was going to have another go tonight. But my friend left the battery isolator on, so now the starter batteries are flat!!! let you know what happens when we get it jacked up and just keep turning the wheel left to right until, I hope air gets expelled and all is well.
Thanks
