So, I had no idea I was joining a community - I just ran into the situation that I needed to move some stuff between my old place and new place, and it looked cheaper to buy a good-size truck, than to pay riggers to pick up my tools and move them for me...
I seem to have ended up with a 1993 Cargo 7000, and other than the fact that it looks like it'll move everything I need to move, and it seems to start and run well, I really have no idea what I've gotten myself into.
The first thing that I _know_ I need to fix, is the cab hold-down system. Neither of the primary latches that should hold the cab down, seem to be working. I've doused them with PB Blaster and I think I have the mechanism moving freely, but the latches just bounce off the pins, and never lock closed. The only thing holding the cab down, is the emergency/safety latch. Any suggestions on where I should poke/prod/beat/etc on the cab latches, to get them to actually engage, would be most appreciated. The levers on the side (actuated by that cross-cab rod) do move into the fully-up position.
The first-and-a-half thing that I know that I need to fix, is rust in the area of the cab-hold down latches. The both of the under-cab channel-sections that the latches bolt to, are badly, badly rusted. I'm a bit surprised at this - most of the rest of the truck is surprisingly rust free, but right at the back of those channel sections, it's all gone to swiss-cheese. My inclination is to form up some plate in 1/8 or 3/16ths to a profile a bit wider than the original channel, re-mount the latches to it, plasma-off the rotted ends of the channel, and thru-bolt the replacement sections onto the floor. I can't see a reason this won't work, but, if anyone else has tackled this same problem and has a clever solution, I'm certainly all ears.
Finally, the only other thing I know I need to address, is the low-air warning. It doesn't appear to be functional. I'm not sure if that's a blown or pulled fuse yet, but either way it looks like I need to track that system down and potentially replace the pressure sensor. If anyone could point me in the right direction on that, I'd be most grateful.
And, of course, if I should know anything else about this beast, please, assume I'm an idiot and need things explained in small words!
Thanks so much for any information,
Will Ray
