Hi folks - just bought a 1987 Cargo 813 horsebox and am having trouble finding reverse gear - seems very hard to engage. Any tips? TIA CJ

Hi, try double de-clutching if you aren't already. Press clutch, take out of gear, foot off then press clutch again and try engaging reverse.

The linkage from the gearstick can slip on the clamps and cause this problem. its not to hard to set up... if you get someone to try and put it into reverse and watch which way the rod moves ...then adjust it to go further. if when you keep trying it just crunches then it could be the clutch not clearing fully, especially if it goes into reverse with the engine stopped.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys! Another problem that I have got is that the accelerator cable keeps slipping of its spindle - I can reach this by opening the panel on the front, and have fitted a kind of washer to it - but this sometimes slips off too! Any ideas how I can stop this happening? I am really non-technical so can you explain it using plain English!!!

Not sure if it's the same set up but I used a cable tie on my Renault Trafic gearbox cable linkage. Hasn't gone wrong since!
