hi, i have a E-reg 1988 1313 cargo beavertail lorry fitted with a 150 turbo ford engine. im currently tarting the old girl up for show use and carrying my vintage tractors. can anyone tell me what the front springs should be? i have single leaf and they are on the bumpstops empty! my mate has a 1715 and that one has twin leaf springs. im wondering if in the past mine has had the springs changed and someone fitted the wrong ones?
cheers, steve

Hi Steve, First of all, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for joining the club. To answer your question, As far as I know, it is only Cargo's upto around 7.5 tonne (08XX) that should have single spring. I am 99% sure that it should be multi spring (like your mates). Either way, if I was in your possition, I would invest in the multi leaf springs but keep the old ones. Worse case if you have to re-fit the old ones and sell the multi. One other tip is, once multi leaf springs are fitted, test your Cargo both empty, and fully loaded (as near to the max weight as you can get her using the tractors you have). This should show that it should be multi leaf springs. Hope that helps. Looking forward to some pics of your truck. we ran loads of cargos (all models)the 1515s had both types of front spring fitted, the single leaf ones always looked nose heavy and over loaded.the twin leaf ones always looked nice and level and were better to drive.i dont know why ford used 2 types of spring when we ordered new trucks it was pot luck what type you ended up with.

thanks for your advice guys. it turns out that they are the right springs and what i thought was a bump stop is actually a spring aid! dopey me! i looked through my cargo manuals and it shows the types of springs in there and than some single leaf had these spring aid things. i have onlyhad the lorry 6 months and was worried that it wouldnt pass the mot but it sailed through first time with 1 advisory- a split rubber on a steering joint!!!! not bad for a 21 year old lorry. will add pics when i can. cheers steve
