i am a new member introduced by cargo1 i thought you lot might be interested to see our horsebox which i built 10 years ago on a sleeper cab 0815 which is in regular use and still goes like stink when wound up on the motorway.she is well maintained and cared for.we have travelled the country in her and had some good weekends away over the years.my wife is a competitive showjumper and we regularly find ourselves parked amongst 150 grand whittaker scania hgv's etc at big shows.we are proud of our old girl and the best bit is when we smoke past them all on the way home giving them a good buffett on the way past.she has always been reliable and i believe simple is reliable.i am happy we will get a few more years out of her yet.keep on trucking!she is number 130 of 150 specials built. we used to own another a few years ago which was a stretched curtainsider.she was seriously long but sold it on.we see another 0815 horsebox at some of the shows so another lives on. i am struggling to find some parts now espacially engine parts any contacts would be appreciated.many thanks.chris.

And another...!
We bought a 0815 Oakley horsebox last August to replace our 0813 horsebox which was too small for our ever bigger horses. The 0813 is on a medium wheelbase while the 0815 is on the long one.
Sadly, the condition of the cab, in particular, is poor and my wife is close to being Wilma Flintstone if any more of the floor rusts away.
The speedo. reads 36000miles but is only a 5-digit one (with no tacho!) and I suspect the vehicle has been at least twice around the clock.
We've had some big jobs to do on it already. The oil feed pipe to the turbo started leaking on the way home and I had to nurse it back, stopping every 20 miles or so, when the oil pressure guage dropped below halfway, to pour more oil in. Genuine Ford pipes are no longer available so we had to take the old one to Pirtek who made up a new one; one problem fixed.
The first horse show my wife & daughter went to produced the next problem: the handbrake lever produced a continuous hiss and the brake warning light came on. She managed to nurse it home. Changing the handbrake lever for a second hand one, plus replacing the plastic pipework to it, again from Pirtek, stopped the handbrake hissing (it was an air leak) but the brake warning light remained on; it had to be hydraulic. Sure enough, one of the brake fluid reservoirs was completely empty and there was brake fluid all over the inside of the nearside rear tyre. My son and I changed the calipers, discs, pads and flexible brakelines for new items, aswell as changing the OSR hub and both OSR wheels for secondhand ones because the wheel nuts were not tight and had worn the thread on the wheelstuds and worn the holes in the wheels oval.
Next trip out, the handbrake suddenly hissed loudly and came on abruptly, unfortunately while my wife was doing 60mph on the M6! She didn't quite manage to get into the hard shoulder and partially blocked lane 1. The traffic wombles, the Police and our breakdown recovery man all attended. One of the new plastic pipes had blown off the replaced secondhand handbrake lever; a jubilee clip has held this on fine ever since.
We've also had some electrical problems; the dipped headlights wouldn't work nor the indicators. The fuse board was responsible for the headlights; the contacts burn out on these. Fortunately I was able to source a new old stock one and my local auto-electrician did the rest. The indicator problem was traced to a faulty hazard warning switch, a common Cargo problem the auto-electricians told me. They bypassed this until I could source a new switch.
So, in just a short time we've had some problems with this one but my wife loves it, so we'll keep going until its sorted.
It failed its MOT on Saturday BTW...cab floor!
